Meet the Mallais Family!
Thursday, February 23, 2012 - 13:11

If you happen to be in one of the McDonald's Restaurants around Southwestern Ontario look for our latest poster and coinboxes featuring the Mallais family. Their story is so inspiring - and we had a great photo shoot around the House!  Special thanks to Melissa Doyle of Casting Memories for the wonderful photography, and to Jaclyn Gillier for the design and the wonderful Mallais family for sharing their story and time!

Kameryn's Story:

Kameryn was just 21-months old when she was rushed from Windsor to London Children’s Hospital for emergency treatment.  She was diagnosed with T-cell non-Hodgkins lymphoma, with a tumour larger than her right lung. She stayed in the hospital for a total of seven weeks  - the first 12-days in an induced coma.  With the urging of hospital staff, Kameryn’s family turned to Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario as a place to stay, do laundry, have a meal, and be just steps away from the hospital.

When Kameryn was able to leave the hospital for outpatient treatment, her family all stayed at the House together so she could spend extra time with her parents and two older sisters.   Kameryn’s medicine was so strong she couldn’t eat much and all she wanted was noodles – any time of day.  The volunteers and staff at the House started calling her “Noodles”, and that nickname has stuck.

“We’ll never forget Ronald McDonald House. It was the one thing that allowed us to concentrate on Kameryn when the cancer was discovered. We believe that she came through so strongly those first few months because we were by her side all the time.”

Volunteers Make our House a Home
Monday, April 26, 2010 - 00:00

On Monday, April 26th we gathered to celebrate and thank our dedicated and caring volunteers during our Annual Volunteer Appreciation Night held at Highland Golf & Country Club. A special thanks to Ron Combs and Sue Taylor for sharing their stories.

From In-House Volunteers, to Dinner at Our House groups, Baking Volunteers Special Event helpers and the many people whose special touch makes this House a home – we thank you. You make our guest families feel comfortable, cared for and safe. You make it possible for families to feel at home. You help ease the stress so they can focus on what matters … their child’s health. Daylon's Gift
Monday, May 18, 2009 - 00:00

On his latest visit to the House 9 year old Daylon asked House Manager, Margaret Wakefield "What's your favorite animal?" He told her he was going to draw her a picture, and promised to have it ready when it was time to fly back home after his latest appointment at Children's Hospital. Daylon and his family are from Northern Ontario and have made 26 visits to Ronald McDonald House in the past nine years.

Today Daylon presented his picture of a gorilla to Margaret which also included a special thank you that reads "Margaret, I love Ronald McDonald House - thank you for taking care of me and my mom."
